Shrink wrap project for 2014 is complete. I'm getting a bit better at it each year. Doing it myself might save some money but more importantly, it gives me one last chance to mess-around with the boat. Something I never have enough of.
Unlike last year, I did the job well enough so I will not need to go up to check on it. And now that Frankie's Pizza (Susan's long time and now our entire family's favorite pizza place) has opened a new restaurant in Hayward, just a few miles from out cabin, there is no need to be in Ashland until June. (seems a long way off)
The cost adds up this way.
Shrink wrap material 100ft x 24ft $130 for two years.
Strapping $10
2X4 lumber $12
contact adhesive and shrink wrap tape $24
About $120 each year, but of course I don't add the gas to drive up twice and staying one overnight at the hotel. I had to stay over because heat shrinking must be done with no wind. That means late at night or before sunrise in the morning because Gordon Lightfoot reminds us "the Gales of November come slashing"on the big lake. Normally I would stay an hour away at the cabin but this year I've got a lingering chest cold and not up to a 4 am drive.
It all adds up to what I could have paid someone to do it but then I would have two weekends without messing around with the boat.
